Hello!
I hope everyone is enjoying this time with their family and learning lots of new things! As we slowly transition back to normal, I want to make this process as easy as possible for all of us. To do this, I would like to introduce you to “I Love You Rituals”.
For children, “I Love You Rituals” are delightful interactions and games that adults can play with children from infancy through eight years of age and that send the message of unconditional love and acceptance. By playing “I Love You Rituals” with your child, you replace mistrust of the outcome with trust. This is especially helpful with transitions because it eases children’s anxiousness as they transfer from their parents care to their teachers. Rituals have a significant benefit of providing kids with the feeling of control that comes from within, which gives the children self-confidence and promotes intellectual growth.
Upon transitioning back, we will focus on doing “I Love you Rituals” with your child as they come into the classroom. Your part before this exchange is to do a ritual with them before entering the classroom, and then directly meet the teacher where we can do a ritual with them as well, to establish a safe and secure connection with your child. After the greeting, a simple, loving, and short goodbye can complete the drop off process.
An Example
Twinkle, twinkle, little star
What a wonderful child you are!
With bright eyes and nice round cheeks,
Talented person from head to feet
Twinkle, twinkle, little star
What a wonderful child you are!
Please be willing to give this a try, I will place a copy of the ritual in your child’s cubby and tape it near the door. I can’t wait to get back to normal and see everyone!
Thank You,
Ms. Shaya and Ms. Kortney
